Creating a <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"\/moving-services\/packing-services\/\"   title=\"packing\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">packing<\/a> list or excel spreadsheet can help you keep track of everything that you may need to bring with you. Gradually crossing tasks off your list over a period of time is a lot less <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" title=\"stressful\" href=\"\/blog\/moving-stress\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">stressful<\/a> than panic-packing at the last minute.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Start_with_essential_documents\"><\/span><b>Start with essential documents<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A good place to start is with important documents, such as your medical insurance card, driver&#8217;s license, social security card, etc. If you plan on holding a part-time job while in school, these documents are necessary for employment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Focus_on_seasonal_clothing\"><\/span><b>Focus on seasonal clothing<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to clothes, pack seasonally. You might be tempted to bring your entire wardrobe, but it\u2019ll take up a lot of your (limited) space! You\u2019ll be especially grateful for these items if\/when your roommate catches a cold! It\u2019s also good to stock up on toiletries at the beginning of the semester, especially if you don\u2019t have easy access to transportation for a quick trip to the store.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_not_to_bring\"><\/span><b>What <\/b><b><i>not<\/i><\/b><b> to bring<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carefully consider the amount of actual living space you&#8217;ll have in your dorm. Will you <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">really<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have room for that appliance (microwave, mini fridge, etc.)? Can you justify bringing a full-size ironing board if you only plan to iron a few articles of clothing? If you don\u2019t anticipate using certain items on a daily basis, you may be better off leaving them at home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Going out of state for school? Think carefully about what you might be better off purchasing locally (e.g. supplemental furniture).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Packing_hacks_to_maximize_space\"><\/span><b>Packing hacks to maximize space<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that you\u2019ve figured out what you\u2019re bringing, it\u2019s time to do the packing. Bellhop recommends leaving your hanging clothes on their hangers for easy unpacking. Slip a garbage bag over groupings of clothes to protect them in transit, or transport them in wardrobe boxes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead of wasting another box on bulky shoes, pack them in your laundry hamper. This saves on some space and doesn\u2019t dirty up the rest of your things. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getbellhops.com\/blog\/top-tips-and-tricks-how-to-pack-clothes\/\">Packing some of your clothes<\/a> into one or two large suitcases and sending the luggage back with your parents will help you save space. We suggest keeping at least one small suitcase with you for a quick weekend trip or visiting home!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Packing_up_your_car\"><\/span><b>Packing up your car<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re driving to school, it\u2019s a good idea to pack your car the night before you plan to move so that you\u2019re not scrambling the day of. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.moving.com\/tips\/dos-and-donts-of-packing-for-college\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moving.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> says the best way to pack your car is to place the large, heavy items in first, situated toward the center and sides of the car.
