The Grand Canyon is just the beginning of Arizona\u2019s incredible landscape, though.<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>But, besides the Grand Canyon, Arizona is known for possessing a stunning landscape filled with ample opportunities to go hiking, mountain biking, trail running, camping, exploring, swimming and white water rafting.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To give you an idea of just how vast the Arizona wilderness is, the state sports two times the amount of wilderness than all of the Midwest put together. The rivers that flow through the state make it one of the top <a href=\"https:\/\/flyfisherpro.com\/locations\/fly-fishing-arizona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fly fishing destinations<\/a> in the country. That\u2019s unbelievable.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Arizona offers such a vast playground of fun activities to do outside we could commit an entire blog to the subject. But what one person sees as a negative may be their neighbor\u2019s favorite thing about the state. So keep an open mind \u2013 and know that locals tend to be thrilled about living in Arizona.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>First, let\u2019s get the not-so-great stuff out of the way:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><b>Droughts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are nothing out of the ordinary in Arizona. According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/new.azwater.gov\/drought\/faq\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Arizona Department of Water Resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the state has been in a drought for a whopping 29 years. If you move there, you may become one of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drought.gov\/states\/arizona\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">438.7 thousand people<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> impacted. That puts the demand for water higher than ever, but the supply is just not there (in most areas).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><b>The above-average cost of living<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is another reason to think long and hard before moving to Arizona. We\u2019ll admit: it\u2019s not <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">too<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> crazy when you get down to the numbers (only <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bestplaces.net\/cost_of_living\/state\/arizona\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6.4%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> higher than the national average), but the costs certainly add up, especially if you\u2019re moving with a family. Utilities and transportation are two of the areas that surpass the nation\u2019s average. Of course, we can\u2019t forget the biggest ticket item: the cost of buying a home. That brings us to our next point\u2026<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><b>Housing costs <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are 19.7% higher in Arizona than in other parts of the U.S. Homes sell for a median rate of $349,300, which might deter you from buying if you\u2019re moving to Arizona from another state that is at or below the national average of $291,700. Of course, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">where<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you move to in Arizona can make a big impact on the price. For example, you may find cheaper homes in a place like Tucson than in <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"\/az\/phoenix\/long-distance-movers\/\"   title=\"Scottsdale\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">Scottsdale<\/a>. All in all, the best way to find an affordable home is to spend time looking, narrow down a neighborhood (make sure it\u2019s safe), and make an offer when something is in your price range. It may take time to find something that checks all your boxes, but the wait might be worth it to you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><b>Low academic ratings<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are another downside of raising school-aged kids in Arizona. The state ranks <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wallethub.com\/edu\/e\/states-with-the-best-schools\/5335\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#48<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> out of all states and the District of Columbia in terms of schools. That\u2019s not to say there aren\u2019t great schools in Arizona (BASIS Chandler, BASIS Scottsdale, and BASIS Flagstaff\u2013to name a few). And in case you haven\u2019t heard about this top-performing school before, it comes in at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/best-colleges\/university-of-arizona-1083\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#105 on the list of \u201cBest Colleges.\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The school is located in beautiful Tucson, Arizona, and welcomes students from all over every year. Some famous people who have attended the school include <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/local\/arizona\/2015\/11\/18\/famous-people-who-graduated-arizona-universities\/76001498\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Raul Castro, Luke Walton, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Kourtney Kardashian<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><b>Affordable healthcare<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a top reason to relocate to Arizona. Okay, you know how we said that Arizona\u2019s cost of living surpasses the national average? Well, while it comes in more expensive to live in Arizona than other parts of the U.S. in general, it\u2019s actually cheaper to get healthcare services there on average (2.7% cheaper, in case you\u2019re curious). So, if you see the doctor a lot, are getting older, or have health concerns, moving to The Grand Canyon State might just be worth it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><b>The cost of food<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is also less in Arizona. Groceries are 3.9% cheaper than the national average. With inflation here, it\u2019s no wonder why this is attractive to families. One report even shows that a family of four people could get away with an annual food budget of $9,338 in 2022, which comes to just over $778 per month. That is \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/247wallst.com\/state\/how-much-food-costs-in-arizona-compared-to-the-nation\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 18th lowest amount among states<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d Just keep in mind that food prices might be higher in cities like Phoenix (reportedly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bestplaces.net\/cost-of-living\/food\/kingman-az\/phoenix-az\/70000\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2.5%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> higher in Phoenix vs. Kingman).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><b>Sports <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are just one more reason to love life in Arizona. Fun fact: did you know that Phoenix is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitarizona.com\/experiences\/sports\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 in 12 cities<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> throughout the country with NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL teams? In terms of professional teams, the state has the Arizona Cardinals (NFL), Arizona Diamondbacks (MLB), Arizona Coyotes (NHL), and Phoenix Suns (NBA). Whether you\u2019re into football or basketball, you\u2019re sure to find plenty to do and like-minded people to meet in beautiful Arizona. There are also numerous sports bars and restaurants to go to if you like watching a big game in that type of setting instead of a giant stadium with roaring fans. One of the best parts of Arizona is that you have both options!<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><b>Grid-style cities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can be found all throughout Arizona. What does that mean exactly? Well, while the traffic in major cities like Phoenix might be horrendous, it\u2019s not too hard to find your way around.
